EROs in the EIS fields
نویسنده
چکیده
The publicly available EIS-DEEP optical-NIR data for the AXAF (Chandra) Deep Field have been used to construct samples of Extremely Red Objects (EROs) using various single-band and multi-band color criteria. In this work we define as EROs objects with colors consistent with passively evolving elliptical galaxies at z ≥ 1. The EROs surface densities we derive are intermediate between previous published values, emphasizing again the need for larger survey areas to constrain the effects of possible large-scale structure. Although various single-color selected samples can be derived, the EROs sample selected using R−Ks > 5, I −Ks > 4, J −Ks > 1.8 jointly is likely to contain the highest fraction of passively evolving luminous field elliptical galaxies at z ≥1, or conversely, the lowest fraction of lower redshift interlopers. The surface density of this multi-band selected EROs sample is consistent with the conclusion that little or no field elliptical volume density evolution has occurred in the redshift range 0 > z > 1.5. However, extensive spectroscopic followup is necessary to confirm this conclusion.

An Overdensity of Extremely Red Objects Around Faint Mid-IR galaxies
We have searched for Extremely Red Objects (EROs) around faint mid-IR selected galaxies in ELAIS fields. We find a significant overdensity, by factors of 2 to 5, of these EROs compared to field EROs in the same region and literature random field ERO counts. The excess is similar to that found previously in the fields of known high redshift quasars and AGN. While with the present data it cannot ...
متن کاملOverdensities of Extremely Red Objects in the Fields of High-redshift Radio-loud Quasars
We have examined the occurrence of Extremely Red Objects (EROs) in the fields of 13 luminous quasars (11 radio-loud and two radio-quiet) at 1.8 < z < 3.0. The average surface density of Ks ≤ 19 mag EROs is two-three times higher than in large, random-field surveys, and the excess is significant at the ≈ 3σ level even after taking into account that the ERO distribution is highly inhomogeneous. T...

متن کاملCounts of Bright Extremely Red Objects : Evolved Massive Galaxies at z ∼ 1
We present results on number counts of Extremely Red Objects (EROs) in a 2850 arcmin 2 near-infrared survey performed in European Large Area ISO Survey (ELAIS) fields at K < 17.5. Counts of EROs are extended to brighter levels than available previously, giving 0.002 ± 0.001arcmin −2 at K < 16.5 and consistent numbers with literature values at fainter magnitudes. Photometric redshifts from HYPER...
متن کاملExamining cortical dynamics and connectivity with simultaneous single-pulse transcranial magnetic stimulation and fast optical imaging
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a widely used experimental and clinical technique that directly induces activity in human cortex using magnetic fields. However, the neural mechanisms of TMS-induced activity are not well understood. Here, we introduce a novel method of imaging TMS-evoked activity using a non-invasive fast optical imaging tool, the event-related optical signal (EROS). ...
